coiled tubing, thecommonelementsbetween themare:
(1) the tube isproducedbyacontinuousmanufacturingprocess,
and (2) the lengthof the tube requires that itbemanufactured,
transportedanddeployed froma reel. Coiled tubingdiameters
range from1 in. toover 4 in., and lengthso enexceed30000 .
Coiled tubing isproduced from flat stripsof hot-rolled steel
whose thicknessandwidthapproximatelyequal thenominal
wall thicknessandcircumferenceof the tube. Because the strip
lengthsare less than typical tube lengths,multiple stripsare
joined togetherbybiaswelds toproducea su iciently long
continuous strip. The strip is then formed intoa tube shapeand
weldedalong itsentire lengthat the junctionof the stripedges,
called the seamweld.
